Luis Enrique’s PSG Salary Set to Eclipse Star Players

Paris Saint-Germain’s head coach, Luis Enrique, is reportedly on the verge of earning a salary that will surpass even the club’s highest-paid stars, including Ballon-d’Or winner Ousmane Dembélé. This revelation, first brought to light by the French sports newspaper L’Équipe, highlights a significant shift in the financial hierarchy within one of Europe’s most prominent football clubs. The current top earner, PSG forward Dembélé, commands approximately 1.5 million euros per month. This move underscores PSG’s commitment to securing and valuing top-tier coaching talent, potentially resetting the financial benchmarks for trainers in elite football leagues.

Currently, Luis Enrique already stands as one of the best-paid coaches globally, with an estimated gross salary of one million euros per month, significantly out-earning his domestic coaching counterparts in Ligue 1. When confronted with his exceptional standing in France’s top league, the 55-year-old Spaniard displayed a pragmatic attitude. “Of course, I am one of the best-paid coaches in the world. That’s good for me,” Enrique commented with a shrug on Thursday, acknowledging L’Équipe’s traditionally calculated salary ranking without false modesty. His candid response suggests a confidence in his value and perhaps a detachment from the public’s fascination with such figures.

The prospect of a planned salary increase, however, could soon generate considerable discussion within the PSG dressing room – or perhaps not, as Enrique himself posed the question. Ahead of PSG’s league match against FC Toulouse, he directly addressed the potential player reaction, asking, “Do you think the players are interested in my salary?” According to consistent media reports, PSG President Nasser Al-Khelaifi is actively working on a new contract for what he considers “the best coach in the world.” L’Équipe suggests this new deal could see Enrique earn a staggering 20 million euros gross per year, solidifying his position as the highest-earning individual at the club.

This substantial proposed salary hike for Luis Enrique signifies a bold strategic move by Paris Saint-Germain’s leadership. By positioning their coach at the pinnacle of their payroll, PSG is sending a clear message about the paramount importance of managerial leadership in their quest for domestic and European dominance. It reflects a growing trend in modern football where the strategic acumen and leadership of a top coach are increasingly seen as pivotal, comparable to, if not exceeding, the on-field contributions of even the most celebrated players. This decision by Al-Khelaifi to invest so heavily in Enrique underlines the club’s long-term vision and belief in his ability to steer the star-studded squad towards sustained success.
